There was a lot of walking, because like usual, almost every small town in Tuscany is built on a hill (or so it seems). We had gelato at a wonderful little gelateria, which had about 40 flavors. I had vernaccia (the local white wine) with grapefruit. It was very refreshing on a hot day like Wednesday was!
We walked up another hill to a wine museum, converted from an old fort and tucked away where there were hardly any tourists. It was time to have a little afternoon beverage, and the winery offered wines by the glass. We chose to drink Vernaccia, of course, and the winery had three different choices for us, each one aged a little longer. You could definitely taste the difference when you drank them in sequence. We sat on a tiny little balcony overlooking the surrounding countryside, enjoying the breeze at the top of the mountain.
After a little shopping, it was time to go back to Florence. Bus, then train, then a not so great dinner (but how could anything compare to Tuesday's dinner!) and then packing for mom and Aunt Clare so that they could take the train to Rome on Thursday morning.
